Work

Monoprint
Water-based ink used with templates, masking, wood and ‘found’ scraps to produce multi-layered one-off relief prints - in series and often increasing in scale - executed primarily on Japanese papers. The resulting process-driven abstract imagery relies on building compositions through the juxtaposition of textural layers.

Oil Pastel 1
Having stumbled across a large, boxed set of oil pastels at a French flea market, Lesli began working with them in 2023. Their rich pigment and malleability afford the opportunity for both precision and spontaneity.

Oil Pastel 2
In these more abstract images, Lesli explores the use of oil pastel to disrupt geometric rigidity.

Mixed Media
The use of mixed media has fostered spontaneity and a move towards abstraction.

Flowering Plants
These more representational mixed media works explore the creative tension between precise, detailed observation and the unpredictability of the image-making process.

Nature
The natural world offers an opportunity for disciplined observation, engaging and refining fundamental drawing and painting skills.

Architecture
The architecture of industrial infrastructure, building sites and overlooked functional buildings have served to provide structural imagery for more abstract works. These more observational pieces chronicle the changing cityscape surrounding Lesli's studio.

Pen, Ink & Wash
Early work in Lesli’s new studio focussed on disciplined, close studies of large bouquets of flowers.
The Acid Level Series takes its name from the antique glass lead battery, repurposed as a vase, which features in all but the last of these drawings.
